SoundsWorks  came together when Jim Token, Eddie Arce and Myself were working on some songs at Jim's house. We got together a couple nights a week and did a mixture of originals and covers. We were getting a fairly solid rhythm section going on, and as usual, I was holding down all lead vocals parts.
Jim, being quite the party animal, was always out at bars and listening to different acts around town. One night while at a local bar over on 7th Ave called
Randys
he met Walt Stewart. Jim found out Walt played Guitar and sang lead and as ked him if he was interested in coming over to jam with us.
Walt was from Atlanta and a very personable guy, but he loved his alcohol , as did Jim. Walt was veteran of the music business. He had recorded with a few southern rock bands and played music just about his whole life. He kind of had this country/Bob Segar vocal style that fit well with my tenor voice. Walt really liked the way our voices sounded together and we had a lot of fun, trading off lead vocals during songs. It really went over well with the crowd.
After a few rehearsals, We formed a band , that did a mixture of country /country rock with a little classic rock thrown in. We quickly put together a cover list of songs and away we went. We started playing the typical private parties and small clubs around town. It wasn
t long before we were a fairly tight act.
Jim booked us to play at the
Number One Lounge in North Miami one weekend in the summer of 1987. The Number One use to be a fairly popular bar in North Miami during the 70
s. Our first weekend there, we invited some of friends who lived in the area and the place was packed. The owner was impressed and wanted us to be his house band. We stayed in that place for 3 months. The place became very popular on Dixie Highway strip and business was booming.
SoundWorks was probably the first band I actually played some Country music with, thanks to Walts influence. My Mom and Dad were down I Florida visiting one weekend and they came by to hear  us. My parents were amazed I was doing country, because that had always been the music they tried to get me to play. It was great they got a chance to hear that. We played other venues after leaving the Number One,
but we always welcome to come back and perform anytime we had an opening.
This band was fun but not enough commitment. Jim, Walt and Eddie all had alcohol and drug abuse problems. I was no angel and did my share of partying, but I was married with a family and knew where my responsibilities lay. The substance eventually became a problem with reliability and we soon disbanded
